Mom breaks down at Cracker Barrel – then waitress leaves note on her to-go bag
Despite all the commitments around the house, parents, especially moms should also make sure their kids spend quality time which includes learning new things, exploring, having fun, and being well fed.
After such a busy day of running around, a family decided to visit Cracker Barrel and have a nice dinner. But as we already know, being with children doesn’t always turn out as expected.
Now the story of their visit to the restaurant has gone viral and people are praising the waitress who served them for her compassion and kindness.
Ian, the son of Jamie Matthew Heustes, has autism and, he says, things can be difficult at times, especially when they are away from home. Jamie often talks to her friends about how she deals with Ian’s behavior when he has a meltdown in public.
This time, they had a really busy day since Ian had karate class and they went to Walmart.
Chris, Jamie’s husband took Ian out and they were about to go home when the waitress came over to see if they wanted to order anything. According to Jamie, “that was probably the 5th out of 6 times he stopped by the table.”
Just then Jamie started crying and told a waitress named Kailyn that she was having a rough day and that most of her days were more or less boring.
Kailyn seemed to know exactly what to do to cheer this mom up. Jamie said:
“About 15 minutes later, my server comes out with my dinner bag. She smiled and told me that my dinner was taken care of, that no payment was required.
I started crying again.
I asked her if she was sure and she assured me that she had taken care of it, not to worry.
I cried on the way out, probably the customers and other employees thought I was crazy.”
This friendly waitress went above and beyond and wrote something really nice on a note she attached to a paper bag. An inspiring and encouraging note read:
“Your child is wonderful.” Mom, be strong. Keep your head up. You are doing a great job. Goodnight. Your server, Kaylin.”
Kayla’s manager found out about her touching gesture and how she planned to use her own money to pay for the family dinner, so he stepped in and took care of the bill himself.
“She left me words that I needed to hear, and I think every mother needs to hear.” Their care and concern did not go unnoticed…
My message from Kailyn now hangs on my fridge, for those moments I need to remind myself of the kindness of strangers.
This beautiful story is just a reminder that many times all it takes to brighten someone’s day are words of encouragement and support.
